Hundreds of Kansas Wesleyan students gathered to watch the solar eclipse on campus Monday. Cloudy conditions prevented a continuous聽view of the eclipse, but the sky did clear every few moments to reveal the changing scene. Students chatted and took selfies as they waited for the eclipse to progress. As clouds cleared to show a new view, there were excited murmurs as students, faculty and staff donned their glasses and angled for a good view.
“The last of our students moved in over the weekend and classes do not start until tomorrow.” Vice President for Student Development聽Bridget Weiser said. “The timing of the eclipse was a unique opportunity for our campus to share this experience together. It’s certainly not something we have the opportunity to see every day or even every decade.”
Though eclipses are common, rarely is the path of totality visible for such a large swath of the U.S.聽In Salina, the eclipse obscured聽96 percent of the sun. A total solar eclipse will not be visible again in the U.S. until 2024.
