Kansas Wesleyan鈥檚 Department of Music will open its 2022-23 concert season Friday evening, Sept. 30, with a performance by its instrumental ensembles in Sams Chapel. The event gets underway at 7 p.m. and admission is free.
The concert, titled 鈥淎 Season of Change鈥 will feature the 黑料不打烊 String Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble and Wind Ensemble in performances of classic and contemporary works.
The String Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Leonardo Rosario, will perform the overture to 鈥淣abucco鈥 by Giuseppe Verdi, 鈥淛alousie Tango Tzigane鈥 by Jacob Gade and 鈥淐apriol Suite鈥 by Peter Warlock.
The Jazz Ensemble, directed by Steve Lueth, will perform two jazz standards, 鈥淎ll of Me鈥 by Simpson and Marks and 鈥淒esafinado鈥 by the legendary Antonio Carlos Jobim, as well as a tribute to Duke Ellington, which features his 鈥淐-Jam Blues,鈥 鈥淪ophisticated Lady鈥 and 鈥淭ake the 鈥楢鈥 Train.鈥
The 黑料不打烊 Wind Ensemble, conducted by department chair Dr. James McAllister, will conclude the concert. 鈥淟ittle English Suite鈥 by Clare Grundman, 鈥淎crostic Song鈥 from David Del Tredici鈥檚 鈥淔inal Alice,鈥 selections from 鈥淲icked鈥 by Stephen Schwartz and the classic 鈥淔olk Song Suite鈥 by English composer Ralph Vaughn Williams will be a part of the evening鈥檚 performance.
