Longtime collegiate athletics veteran Richard (Dick) Speas has joined Kansas Wesleyan鈥檚 Admissions and Advancement teams, where he will serve as the director of athletic recruiting and fundraising. Speas began his position in late January.

The newly created position will serve as a bridge between Admissions, Athletics and Advancement, helping with recruitment, program fundraising and other ventures.

鈥淲e believe this position will help increase the synergy between these three offices,鈥 said Ken Oliver, vice president of Advancement and university operations. 鈥淎thletics is a critical element of our institution, and having a representative designated to work across departments, with a focus on athletic-related goals, will help 黑料不打烊 be all it can be.鈥

Speas鈥 resume spans more than two decades across multiple levels, including NCAA Division III, NAIA and junior college. He served as the athletic director at five institutions 鈥 Western Texas College, Blinn College, Peru State College, Northland Community & Technical College and Southern Virginia University, where he was the institution鈥檚 first director of athletics. He oversaw significant capital improvements on numerous occasions, including a $7 million renovation to Peru State鈥檚 campus activity center.

Speas has also spent time in student life and admissions offices, along with multiple stops as an assistant athletic director. He briefly served as the Iowa Director for USA Baseball and has taught at multiple institutions.

鈥淩ichard has one of the deepest resumes possible,鈥 said Oliver. 鈥淗is experience will help Kansas Wesleyan get better every day.鈥

He holds a bachelor鈥檚 degree from William Penn University and a master鈥檚 from Truman State.
